Been catching up on my movie watching today.

First up was INLAND EMPIRE (yes, it's supposed to be in capital letters) the latest David Lynch. This is three hours of pure surrealist Lynch. Mainly filmed on digital video it's the story of an actress played by Laura Dern who get a role in a film that may or may not be cursed as the last time a version of the screenplay was attempted, in Poland early in the 20th century, the two main actors were killed. Maybe. Time folds in on itself, the line between actress and role becomes blurred and then exploded into tiny pieces, Polish circus performers eat hot dogs, giant rabbits iron to a laugh track while waiting for the phone to ring, characters may or may not see themselves in the past/future and a room full of prostitutes do a dance number to The Locomotion. It's an amazing experience and at the moment I think I liked it.

Then I watched Children of Men which is just superb. Just from a technical point of view, there are a couple of. very long, extremely complex shots that are just mind blowing. But luckily there is so much more with great acting and a fascinating story. This says is all so much better than I could
